A facelift is one of the most common surgical procedures that Dr. Karolak performs. Also known as rhytidectomy, facelift surgery removes sagging skin and deep wrinkles that may make you look older than you really are. If you’re considering a facelift, you may be wondering about the benefits of this procedure. Keep reading to find out.

1. A Younger Looking Face

Perhaps the most obvious benefit of a facelift is a more youthful appearance. During a facelift, Dr. Karolak will tighten your facial and neck muscles and get rid of excess skin. The results? An attractive face that allows you to turn back time and look like a more youthful, refreshed version of yourself.

2. Long Lasting Results

If you’re looking to improve your face in a dramatic yet natural-looking way but are worried about the results diminishing over time, a facelift is a great option. The result is a permanent improvement that gives you a new set point from which aging will continue. It may take seven to 10 years or longer before surgery may be a good option again, however, you will still look better than if you never had it done. Keep in mind, however, that lifestyle habits, tissue elasticity, skin care and other factors will continue to contribute to the aging process. The good news is you will look younger than you would if you didn’t have the procedure.

3. Smoother Lines and Wrinkles

A facelift can help improve moderate to deep wrinkles, facial lines, creases, and folds. While non-invasive treatments like fillers and injectables may be helpful, their results are often temporary and limited when the facial muscles are loose.  With a facelift, you can enjoy a long-term solution to your aging concerns. It’s important to note that a facelift only addresses the lower part of the face. So if you’re concerned by an aged appearance in the forehead and eye area, you may want to pair your facelift with a brow lift or eyelid surgery.

4. How is a Facelift Performed

Dr. Karolak performs facelifts on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with medication to keep you relaxed and comfortable. Since you have unique goals, the incision pattern will depend on the complexity of your rejuvenation. Dr. Karolak will begin by making an incision hidden in the hair of your  temples and continuing it in the natural skin creases to hide them around and “inside” the ear.  Next, he’ll work under the skin so he can restore the underlying muscles and tissue to a more youthful position and distribute any displaced fat to back to where it belongs. The surgery will end when he removes any excess skin and gently closes your incisions without pulling or stretching the skin for a natural look.

After a facelift, your loved one will have to drive you home and stay with you for at least 24 hours. While many patients use only tylenol afterwards, a stronger pain medication may be used to control pain. You will be asked to sleep with your head elevated for one to two weeks. The good news is your scarring will fade away fairly quickly and discoloration will likely start to subside in a week or two.

Facelift Consultations Available

“I got tired of viewing my jowls and loose neck. I asked my plastic surgeon what options were available. He recommended the lower face and neck lift. I had so much confidence in my surgeon since he was amazing with fillers. He is so kind and a true artist with his work. I look like a refreshed version of myself. I wasn’t one bit nervous. He explained the entire procedure to me. He is the best and I would highly recommend him.”
