Acne can take its toll on your skin. Severe acne, no matter the kind, can cause scarring on the face, some of which won’t heal over time. If your acne-based scarring is bringing your confidence down, don’t worry. At Karolak Facial Plastic Surgeon, we’re here to help you kickstart your healing process.
What Procedures Are Available?
Depending on the kind of scarring, several treatments can be used. Below are some options that we can provide:
TCA Cross
TCA is ideal for treating ice pick scars. By adding an inflammatory chemical to the scarred area, TCA can stimulate new collagen fibers that help to change and reduce the appearance of scarification.
Fat Transfer
Using fat from other areas of the body, a fat transfer is injected into areas that may have experienced volume loss. By doing this, scars can be flattened out, reducing their appearance.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
During this procedure, your doctor will draw blood from another area of the body and isolate the plasma in it via centrifuge. They will then take the plasma-rich sample and inject it into the area of concern, stimulating the healing process to produce collagen and elastin.
Aggressive Subcision
Similar to a filler, subcisions are performed with a needle. What makes subcision unique, though, is what happens underneath the skin. Using a specialized needle, your physician is able to break apart the fibers in scar tissue, helping the scar to heal itself. This method is ideal for deep scarification on depressed scars.
Dermal Fillers
Fillers can be a safe, minimally-invasive alternative to surgery. There are lots of dermal fillers on the market, and which one works best for you depends on the kind of scars you have. In general, dermal fillers are best for depressed scars. Some fillers even promote collagen production, working to make the scars disappear permanently over time. Typically, fillers are active and work under your skin anywhere from 6-18 months.
Fractional CO2 Skin Resurfacing
For severe scarring in specific areas, laser scar removal may be ideal. Using a fractional carbon dioxide laser, your doctor can reduce moderate to severe scarring with multiple laser treatments over the course of a few months.
Which Treatment Is Right For Me?
The ideal treatment for you depends on the type of scarring you have, the severity of it, and your skin type. To find out which treatment is right for you, consult our office for a full screening and a plan to help you reach your aesthetic goals.
